Choral
For SSAATTBB a cappella
This piece is inspired by Sara Teasdale's poem "Moonlight," which explores the inevitable passage of time, reflecting on heartbreak and the longing for old age.
It will not hurt me when I am old,
A running tide where moonlight burned
Will not sting me like silver snakes;
The years will make me sad and cold,
It is the happy heart that breaks.

This piece conveys a sense of deep connection and commitment between two individuals. It expresses a bond where two individuals are inextricably linked. The opening line, "I am thine, thou art mine," establishes a sense of possession and intimate connection between the two.
I am thine, thou art mine,
And this shall be a sure sign:
Locked fast thou art
Within my heart,
And lost forever is the key;
So thou inside must ever be.

For SSAA a cappella
Emily Dickinson’s poem tells the story through a feminist lens as a metaphor for the limitations imposed on women by patriarchal structures. The act of shutting the speaker up in "Prose" represents the silencing and suppression of women's voices and experiences within a patriarch.
They shut me up in Prose —
As when a little Girl
They put me in the Closet —
Because they liked me "still" —
Still! Could themself have peeped —
And seen my Brain — go round —
They might as wise have lodged a Bird
For Treason — in the Pound —
Himself has but no will
And easy as a Star
Abolish his Captivity —
And laugh — No more have I —

In a world that feels chaotic and overwhelming, it’s easy to feel small. I wrote this piece as a reminder—to myself and to others—that even in a vast world, you can make a difference. Even if you don’t know exactly where you’re headed, you will leave an impact wherever you are planted. The music begins quietly, almost anticlimactic, representing the stillness and smallness of a seed. As the piece unfolds, it gradually builds, symbolizing seeds sprouting and budding all over the earth. The use of polyphony reflects the many seeds—many individuals—growing in different directions, each with their own purpose, yet all contributing to something greater.
A seed is but a little thing,
Yet holds the power of life and spring.
With care and love, it breaks the ground,
And spreads its beauty all around.
Though deep in soil, it does not yield,
Its strength is not yet quite revealed.
With love and care, it breaks the ground.
